Cable Solutions is proud to present the Audio Authority 1177A-1 digital audio switch!
Successor to the venerable 1177A, the 1177A-1 is manufactured by Audio Authority, exclusively for Cable Solutions.
Equal or superior to those of the 1177A, the specs for the 1177A-1 ensure outstanding performance. Aside from the dash-one in the model number and a subtlety more luxurious finish on the case, appearance remains essentially identical.
The Audio Authority 1177A-1 Digital Audio Switch features an all-metal cabinet for optimal shielding and appearance and the new design includes new circuit board architecture for superior performance.
This high-performance digital audio switch can expand the digital audio capacity of any audio system. It automatically selects the active audio input and it can convert optical and coaxial signals automatically and transparently so you can connect any combination of optical TOSLink or coaxial digital audio sources.
The 1177A-1 digital audio switcher simultaneously outputs both optical and coaxial signals, seamlessly converting between the two formats. As an example, you can have a satellite receiver connected to input one via TOSLink optical cable and a CD player connected to input two via coaxial cable. The switcher monitors all inputs, waiting for a state change. So in the example above, if the satellite receiver is turned on, the 1177A-1 would automatically switch to that input. Subsequently, if the CD player is then turned on, the switcher would sense the presence of the new source, and switch to that input.
Interestingly, this works even if the first source is not turned off, which is a great feature, because some devices, like satellite and cable boxes, continue to transmit a digital audio carrier even when they are turned "off". Obviously the auto-select feature cannot work if more than one source refuses to stop transmitting a carrier, so if you have a situation like that, you might be better served by a switcher that can be controlled via IR remote.
Assuming that most of your devices actually do turn off when not in use, it works very well. And regardless of which input is active, the switcher will simultaneously output both optical and coaxial digital audio from that source. Being a digital switcher, the 1177A-1 is capable of passing SPDIF signals in just about any format or clock rate, so it supports all Dolby Digital, DTS, and PCM formats.
The included universal power supply ensures that the 1177A-1 will work just about anywhere in the world, although customers outside of the USA will probably need a passive adapter for the plug.
Like most Audio Authority products, the 1177A-1 Digital Audio Switch comes with a one year limited warranty from the manufacturer.
Please notice that the 1177A-1 is a Cable Solutions exclusive - it can't be purchased anywhere else, with the possible exception of our own Resellers. There are still some sites that are advertising the older 1177A, but as far as we can tell, none of them actually have any inventory.
Please notice too, that even Audio Authority's current product page is not strictly correct, as they are not showing the current model. This page is your best source for information on the current version of the 1177A-1 Digital Audio Switch. With all of that out of the way, on to the manufacturer's original description!
This 4x1 AutoSelect switch is a perfect solution when digital audio sources outnumber your system's digital audio inputs. The 1177A-1 features both digital coaxial and digital optical inputs and outputs, and automatically outputs the selected audio source in both formats simultaneously.
Four inputs, one output. Made in the USA.
The 1177A-1 is a unique four input, one output digital audio switcher, incorporating technologies such as AutoSelect automatic input switching and digital audio automatic cross-conversion. This sturdy product is perfect for adding digital audio inputs to a Bose Lifestyle system, or a legacy A/V receiver that has very few digital inputs. Supports both digital optical and digital coaxial audio types.
In the Box
The front panel has multi-color LEDs to indicate "auto" mode and input selection status, as well as a push-button switch for manual source selection.
This shot shows the front panel in greater detail.
In this back-lit shot, we have attempted to capture with the camera the subtle qualities of the finish. It's a nice textured finish with a subdued metallic appearance. It is easy enough to appreciate in person, but difficult to capture in a photo.
This picture shows the back panel. If you zoom in, you can see four optical TOSLink digital audio inputs at the upper right, with a corresponding coaxial digital input below each optical input. The output connectors are on the left side. The power input connector is located between the input and the output connectors.
Shown here are the items that are included in the box. Starting at the upper right, moving in a clockwise direction, you can see the the 1177A-1 unit itself, a universal power supply, and an installation instruction sheet.
Here is a closer look at the included universal power supply. As you can see, this will work with just about any power system. The plug itself is intended for the USA, so if you are in a different country, you will need a passive adapter.
