Unbalanced to Balanced Audio Signal Conversion
The "pro output" model DM2-2XX was designed to provide transformer isolation at the output of a device that is driving a long audio cable. Like the PI-2XX and PB-2XX, it allows the full audio frequency range to pass through it, while breaking the physical connection between the source and destination. The 1:1 ratio output type transformer inside has the least passive losses of the three types, and will eliminate 60 Hz ground loop noise. However, since the output transformer does not have an internal Faraday shield like the PI-2XX and PB-2XX, higher frequency "buzz' noises will pass through, making the DM2-2XX the least effective of the three for eliminating noise problems. The DM2-2XX can be used at either end of a long cable run, but is best used at the start of the run.
Jensen Transformers PI-2RX Stereo Isolator, 1:1 Output Ratio (Consumer to Pro)
The PI-2RX is ideal for interfacing unbalanced sources, such as preamplifiers with RCA outputs, to equipment with balanced inputs such as
amplifiers. There is no limit to the length of the cables on the input side of the PI-2RX, although the output cables should be no
longer than 3 feet. PI-Series isolators feature the Jensen Transformers' JT-11P-1
line input transformer, which eliminates noise interferences, such as 60 cycle hum, higher frequency buzzes, clicks & pops from machinery
motors, radio station pickup, and light dimmer noise.
Balanced to Unbalanced Signal Conversion
Equipped with Jensen Transformers' JT-11P-1
line input transformer, the PI-2XX is ideal for interfacing balanced lines to unbalanced inputs such as power
amplifiers or unbalanced mixer console inputs.
We usually recommend the PI-2XX over the PB-2XX and DM2-2XX for most all applications where someone is trying to isolate an audio line. The PI-2XX is the better choice over the other two models if you need to isolate a high impedance line input, such as the line input of a power amp or crossover. It will eliminate several types of noise interferences, such as 60 cycle hum, higher frequency buzzes, clicks & pops from machinery motors, radio station pickup, and noises caused by light dimmers. It needs to be located right at the line inputs, with a maximum of 3 feet or less of hookup cable on its outputs. The line input it is connected to must have a minimum load impedance of 10k Ohms or higher. There is no restriction to the length of cable on the input side of the PI-2XX.
Featuring a Jensen JT-10KB-D 4 to 1 step-down line input transformer, the PC-2XR works very well in "Pro"(+4dBu) to "Consumer" (-10dBV) level conversion applications. This transformer provides excellent isolation for unbalanced consumer inputs, while also providing the required signal level conversion.
The PB-2XX "patch bay" model is the one to choose if you need a general purpose isolation box, especially for
sound reinforcement applications. It can tolerate a length of cable on its output side, which would be the case if
the PB-2XX was installed in a patch bay either on stage or near a house console. It can connect to a line input
that is as low as 600 Ohms input impedance, all the way up to 10k Ohms (or even higher) although it works better
into 600 Ohms. Transient response into 10k Ohms is good, although the PI-2XX's response is much better into 10k Ohms.
For what its worth, it would be almost impossible to hear a difference between the two in a live concert application.
The PB-2XX gives you similar rejection of the same noise problems listed above with the PI-2XX, but works only on those noises that get introduced on the input side of the PB-2XX. If there is a long length of cable on the PB-2XX output, any noises that get picked up on the output side will not be rejected by the PB-2XX, as they are beyond the box at that point.
The PB-2XX does have internal jumpers that can set each channel individually into a ratio of 1:1, 1:2 step up (approx. 5 dB of signal gain), or 2:1 step down (approx. 6 dB of signal loss). These internal jumpers are a feature that is unique to the PB-2XX; the other pro ISO-MAX models do not have internal jumpers. Finally, like the PI-2XX, there is no restriction to the length of cable on the input side of the PB-2XX.
Unbalanced Audio Isolators (Consumer Interface)
Equipped with RCA "Consumer Interface" jacks, this audiophile-quality device is suitable for single-channel (mono) full-range unbalanced audio. The CI-1RR not only eliminates hum and buzz, but also enhances audio quality by reducing spectral contamination due to ultrasonic and RF interference. Uses the respectable JT-11P1 line input transformer.
All of the advantages of the CI-1RR (above), but with two channels. Perfect for stereo applications. Uses two of the respectable JT-11P1 line input transformers.
Similar to the CI-2RR, but with 3.5mm jacks. Great for iPods, MP3 players, computer audio, or anything that uses 3.5mm interface cables.
