Jensen Transformers JT-DB-E 12:1 "Direct Box" Transformer

The Jensen Transformers JT-DB-E ISO-MAX 12:1 "Direct Box" Transformer features a double Faraday shield and a 30 dB magnetic shield.  The wire leads and included angle bracket mounting hardware make it perfect for DIY projects.  Also available in a PCB mounting style.

These Jensen Direct Box Transformers are the ideal choice for coupling guitar pickups, musical instrument and other line level outputs to low impedance microphone inputs. They also give excellent results when used as an output transformer for Tube type condenser microphones. Direct Box transformers provides ground isolation and allow long cable runs from high impedance sources without excessive bandwidth loss.

Here are some specs:

  • Impedance ratio: 200k : 1.5k
  • Turns ratio: 12:1
  • Maximum 20 Hz input: +22dBu
  • THD @ 20 Hz: 0.036 %
  • THD @ 1 kHz: < 0.001 %
  • 20 Hz re:1 kHz: -0.08 dB
  • 20 kHz re:1 kHz: -0.07 dB

This transformer is also available in a PCB mounting style, which is a direct replacement for the CT283 transformer, as used in the Rode Classic II microphone.

With inferior products coming from all over the world, we think it is a genuine treasure to find a company like Jensen Transformers, actually designing and manufacturing some of the finest products in the world, right here in the USA, and we are proud to be able to offer their products. The JT-DB-E is made in the USA, is backed by the manufacturer's comprehensive one-year warranty, and has a remarkable 20-year warranty on the transformer device itself.

Jensen Transformers' Description

Jensen Transformers JT-DB-E

12:1 "DIRECT BOX" TRANSFORMER

DUAL FARADAY SHIELDS FOR HIGH ISOLATION

  • Converts unbalanced line levels to balanced mic level output
  • Stops "hum and buzz" problems in musical instrument hook-ups
  • Allows use of long cables without high frequency loss
  • High common-mode rejection: 100 dB at 60 Hz
  • Excellent frequency response and time domain performance

When loaded by the 1 kΩ input impedance typical of mic preamplifiers, this transformer has a 140 kΩ input impedance, making it ideal for high impedance sources. It can be used with or without an active buffer as a "direct box" for electric guitars or synthesizers. A 30 dB magnetic shield package is standard.
