The Intelix DIGI-HDMI-F balun is a professional-grade active extender capable of transmitting HDMI up to 150 feet over two twisted-pair cables, such as Cat-5 or Cat-6.
The DIGI-HDMI- F supports all standard HDTV resolutions and is HDCP compliant. The system is powered on the receive end.
The DIGI-HDMI-F kit includes a send balun, receive balun, and one power supply.
With its enclosed design, the Intelix DIGI-HDMI- F may be used stand-alone, or may also be rack-mounted by using an optional rack-mount kit. Connection to HDMI is via standard Type A connectors. HDMI cables are not included, but we do have them available here. Connection to the (2) twisted-pair cables is via RJ45.
It is important to know that while Intelix specifies that the DIGI-HDMI-F should be connected via shielded
Cat 6 cable, neither shielding nor category 6 cabling is required for most installations. The engineers at Intelix are very
conservative, so it is not entirely surprising that they would recommend such cable. Consider that, by comparison,
manufacturers of lesser products are less conservative, so even though they may not specify shielded Cat 6, their product may
actually need it.
So what kind of cable do you need? The reality of the situation is that, in the lab, unshielded cable performs just as well as shielded cable. Shielding is recommend because the engineers have seen some cases where EM noise problems were resolved by using shielded cable. If you are starting from scratch, it may make sense to start with Cat 6 or even shielded Cat 6 cable, but if you already have existing cable, it is entirely likely that your existing cabling will work just fine. The same comments can be applied to Cat 5 cables. There is a surprisingly wide range of performance difference among twisted-pair cables. For example, a very good Cat 5 cable may actually out-perform a less stellar Cat 6-rated cable. Just keep in mind that Intelix's specs are based upon a given cable, so if you use a cable that is inferior to the cable used in the test setup, you should expect less range/performance. On the other hand, if you use cable that is superior to that used in the test setup, you can expect better range/performance.

DIGI-HDMI-F Balun
The Intelix DIGI-HDMI-F transmits a high-definition HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) signal up to 150 feet over two inexpensive twisted pair cables. The DIGI-HDMI-F supports 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i high-definition video up to 150 feet when using standard Cat 5e cabling, and 1080p high-definition video up to 150 feet when using standard Cat 6 cabling. The DIGI-HDMI-F balun supports standard HDTV resolutions and is HDCP compliant. Each DIGI-HDMI-F includes the send unit, receive unit, and power supply. The system is powered on the destination end.
