Intelix DIGI-DVIT4R-F

The Intelix DIGI-DVIT4R-F is a 1 x 4 DVI-D distribution system.  As we have come to expect from Intelix, this DVI distribution system offers more than one might immediately expect.  For example, the transmitter balun includes a DVI pass-though output, which is perfect for applications that would benefit from a local monitor.  Of course, the send balun can also transmit high-resolution DVI signals up to  220 feet over a single Cat 5 or Cat 6 cable.

The DIGI-DVIT4R-F system includes one receive balun, and the system can be expanded to a total of four remotes by adding additional DIGI-DVI-R-F receivers (add to cart below).  Each receiver includes two DVI outputs, making it simple to drive either one or two monitors at each remote location.

This DVI distribution system may be used stand-alone, or may also be rack-mounted by using an optional rack-mount kit.

As with virtually all systems that are based upon Cat 5/6 cable technology, the Intelix DIGI-DVIT4R-F system will work with virtually any Cat-type cabling, including Cat 5 and Cat 6, but range and/or bandwidth is directly related to both distance and cable quality, so to get the highest resolutions at the greatest distance, you will want high-quality cables.

It is important to know that while Intelix specifies that the DIGI-DVIT4R-F should be connected via shielded Cat 6 cable, neither shielding nor category 6 cabling is required for many installations.  The engineers at Intelix are very conservative, so it is not entirely surprising that they would recommend such cable.  Consider that, by comparison, manufacturers of lesser products are less conservative, so even though they may not specify shielded Cat 6, their product may actually need it.

So what kind of cable do you need?  The reality of the situation is that, in the lab, unshielded cable performs just as well as shielded cable.  Shielding is recommend because the engineers have seen some cases where EM noise problems were resolved by using shielded cable.  If you are starting from scratch, it may make sense to start with Cat 6 or even shielded Cat 6 cable, but if you already have existing cable, it is entirely likely that your existing cabling will work just fine.  The same comments can be applied to Cat 5 cables.  There is a surprisingly wide range of performance difference among UTP cables.  For example, a very good Cat 5 cable may actually out-perform a less stellar Cat 6-rated cable.  Just keep in mind that Intelix's specs are based upon a given cable, so if you use a cable that is inferior to the cable used in the test setup, you should expect less range/performance.  On the other hand, if you use cable that is superior to that used in the test setup, you can expect better range/performance.
