The original Audio Authority model 1177 adaptive
signal-sensing electronic switcher was well known for high-performance automatic
digital audio switching.
The model 1177 is no longer in production, but fortunately, Audio Authority
is now offering an updated version known as the model 1177A. Please
click here to see the updated model 1177A.
By comparison, the 1177A has improved EMI shielding, for even lower noise and
more reliable switching. It's a great
update to what was already a class-leading product!

Description
This high-performance device can expand digital audio capacity of any audio system. It automatically selects the active audio input and it can convert optical and coaxial signals automatically. You can connect any combination of optical TOSLink and coaxial digital audio
sources. The switcher outputs both optical and coaxial signals simultaneously, converting seamlessly between the two formats. For example, you can have a satellite receiver connected to input one via TOSLink optical cable and a DVD player connected to input two via coaxial cable. No matter which input is active,
the switcher will always output both optical and coaxial formats from that source.
Expand Digital Audio Input Capacity
Model 1177 and 1155 present great solutions for consumers who want to connect multiple digital audio sources to A/V systems which have limited inputs. Each unit allows the output of 4 sources to be connected to the input of a home theater receiver and/or TV. The 1177 and 1155 accept both optical (TosLinkŠ ) and coax
(RCA jack) signals. Both signals are automatically converted to provide both types of outputs to the sound system, eliminating compatibility problems between products with differing digital connections.
Automatically Select the Active Source
Proprietary circuitry monitors the 4 sources connected to the AutoSelector for the presence of a digital signal and selects the active one automatically. Another feature allows the user to assign selection priority to those signals. Example: both a satellite receiver and a DVD player are connected to the AutoSelector.
If the power on the satellite receiver is left on, its digital signal will be detected constantly by the AutoSelector. But by assigning the DVD player a higher priority, the AutoSelector would automatically select it whenever its signal was detected, even though there is also signal from the satellite receiver. A
manual select button is provided to override the automatic selection. Multi-color front panel LEDs indicate source availability and selection status.

The Audio Authority 1177.
The front panel has multi-color LEDs for power and input selection status, as well as a push-button switch for manual source selection.
This picture shows the back panel. If you zoom in, you can see four optical TOSLink digital audio inputs at the upper right, with a corresponding coaxial digital input below each optical input. The output connectors are on the left side. The power input connector is in between.
